What is Paintball?Paintball is a safe, fun, non contact sport enjoyed by millions of people each year. It is very similar to the capture the flag game that many of us have played as children, only in paintball you use a paintball marker to eliminate each opponent instead of tagging them out with your hand. Many misconceptions have developed over the years labeling the sport of paintball as "War Games" and associated with the "Rambos" of society. Men, Women, and Children all enjoy playing paintball. The age limit is 12 and up due to liability reasons. Contrary to many macho perceptions, the ladies do just fine at the sport of paintball. Paintball is a diverse sport that requires many skills to be successful. The young speedy 16 year old boy might be able to out run his 45 year old out of shape, chain smoking 275 pound father, but dad just might be a little sneakier at concealing himself and lets junior run right to him without the young boy knowing dad was even there. Meanwhile, mom is a crack shot and cleans up the field with her pin point accuracy. Paintball makes a great outing for birthday parties, stag parties, baseball/soccer team year end parties or just you and your adrenaline junky friends looking for the next thrill. Does It Hurt? Many new players often ask the question, "does it hurt?" As long as you are wearing suitable clothing (long sleeved shirts and pants) you will be fine. If you are running around in the buff and get shot at point blank range, expect it to sting for a moment. Adrenaline will supply you with top of the line head protection and goggles. The paint is non staining and will wipe off with water and a paper towel. Lots of 12 year old girls play Paintball. Are there different types of paintball? There are some different styles of paintball games. Speed ball/Air ball games are played on relatively small courts. Players are in teams of 3, 5, 7, or even 10. the Bunkers are canvas baggers filled with air, and players compete to eliminate opponents to collect points while capturing a flag. There are several professional and amateur leagues through out the world now. Most players that regularly play speed ball use higher end markers that shoot at higher rates of fire. Speed ball games only take 5 to 10 minutes and players shoot a lot of paint each game. Scenario games are played as small or large groups, sometimes in predetermined teams but often in teams that are set on the day of the game. These games are usually played as military type scenarios and can last from 10 minutes to an hour or more. You will hear of big games that are often hosted as special events once or twice a year at outdoor fields. This is a grand event, often a scenario game, that lasts all day and can consist of hundreds or thousands of players. Indoor paint ball is a fun way to keep playing during the winter. Locally indoor paintball is Speed ball but scenario games can be played indoors as well. Hyper ball is much the same as speed ball but the bunkers are made from hard objects like tubes tires wood or cement. |
